Gunesh in Belarus Eurovision Competition

​“Gunesh finished second with I Won’t Cry in the Belarus Eurovision Contest, after the cheating Alekseev, who won with his song Forever—a song he had clearly performed at many concerts back in May 2017, long before it was allowed under ESB rules.
Bribes and corruption made him the winner. And what did Jon Ola Sand, the Executive Supervisor at the EBU and responsible for the Eurovision Song Contest, do in Minsk on February 14—just two days before the Belarusian national final? He left before the contest.
The Belarusian TV company claims he was there to discuss the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in November, but I don’t believe that—and neither do many others.”

Public Reactions
Belarus 2018 – Tim Norell announced he was ready to take legal action against the EBU and BTRC for violating their own rules.
Lyricist Alexander Bard wrote on Twitter:
“Rigging seems to be standard for #Eurovision in Eastern Europe. But never before has it been so blatant as when #escbelarus 2018 admits publicly that #Alekseev’s victory, with an old song, was rigged due to sponsors demanding he win.
When will the #EBU react and clean up the #ESC?”
The final of the Belarus Eurovision competition took place on February 16, 2018. Gunesh competed with the song I Will Not Cry, with music by Tim Norell and lyrics by Ola Håkansson and Alexander Bard. The track was produced by Anders Hansson and Tim Norell.
About Gunesh
Gunesh is a well-known Belarusian singer, born and raised in Belarus. She has more than 15 years of professional stage experience. Her artistic career began in singing competitions, where she earned numerous awards, including Grand Prix titles at several prestigious international vocal contests.
In 2005, after participating in the International Competition of Young Performers “Slavic Bazaar in Vitebsk”, she received wide acclaim.
In 2006, she won Song of the Year in Belarus by a large margin in the public vote.
In 2010, she became a member of the International Association of Festivals and Artists (WAFA).
In 2011, she was awarded a high state honor—the Skarina Medal. She is also a soloist of the Youth Variety Theatre in Minsk.
Gunesh is a vocalist of the highest category. She has received the Grand Award and the title of laureate of the Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus, A.G. Lukashenko, in recognition of her contribution to the support and development of talented youth.
Gonna find my angel
A musical in 3 acts. A story about young people somewhere far from the big city. About love, sorrow, joy, old cars and with more than twenty of my Swedish hit songs, such as: “Jeannie’s Coming Back”, “Gonna Find My Angel”, “Who’s Gonna Follow You Home”, “Jimmy Dean” and “Dansa i Neon”, mostly with new Swedish lyrics to fit the story.
Ten O’clock Postman
A musical in 3 acts. The libretto is based on the true story of my wife Elena’s life as a young woman in Leningrad in the 80’s. The music is Tims Secret Service songs such as:

Agnetha Fältskog &Ola Håkansson:
​Story for both songs
​
We were asked to create a hit for Sweden’s 1992 Winter Olympics campaign — maybe a duet with Ola and a famous female artist? Ola called Agnetha Fältskog from ABBA, and she invited us to her home to listen to our demos.
I worked day and night and came up with two songs: a ballad and a more upbeat track. Ola said if Sweden didn’t get the Olympics, we might as well aim for a hit instead. He and Alexander wrote lyrics, and Anders and I produced the demos.
Visiting Agnetha, I expected a diva — but she was warm and gracious. She listened and later said yes… to both songs!
When Agnetha came to the studio, it was unforgettable. She sang with such emotion that we were speechless — especially on the line “you take me on.” Inspired by her, Ola delivered one of his best performances, even in her high key.

No one believed in Andreas Lundstedt or my song ”Driver Dagg Faller Regn” except Alexander Bard and myself, when we were asked to participate in Swedish Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with this song. So Alexander and I made the production with Andreas from my demo! And it became No 2 in Swedish ESC and it was also a big hit in Sweden.
We made a follow-up (”Hey-Ya, Hey-Ya”) and an album but it was never released because of disagreements between Andreas and Stockholm Records. This is one of my absolute favourites songs, especially with Swedish lyrics!

One day Alexander Bard came to my home studio searching for new hits to Army of Lovers. He listened to my demos and found three songs suitible for Army. Anders Hansson produced and Alexander and Jean Pierre wrote the lyrics to ”Give My Life” (but the title was from me), ”Venus And Mars”, and the big hit, specially in Russia: ”Lit de Parade”

We had an idea to make a new recording of the Secret Service song ”Just A Friend For The Night” with Swedish singer Carola. She came to our studio and sang better then ever to Anders Hanssons demo background. Afterwards her record company was lyrical but not Carola, she had become religious and the text was immoral she thought.
A famous foreign producer came to her record company and heard the demo, fell in love with the song and wanted to produce it with Carola. She then said yes if she could change the text to something less immoral. Unfortunately she changed the whole feeling of the song…

In 2018, Anders Hansson and I produced “I Won’t Cry” for Belarusian singer Gunesh in the national Eurovision selection. Despite strong vocals and a standout performance, the contest was marred by cheating — Aleksejev, who had broken the rules and sang off-key, won due to corruption.
President Lukashenko defended Aleksejev and criticized us, but in the Eurovision final, Belarus came last.
Justice, in the end, spoke for itself.
